The three finalists for the Vezina Trophy were announced on Saturday.
The award is presented to "the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at this position as voted by the general managers of all NHL clubs."
Carey Price of the Montréal Canadiens, Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals were named finalists for the award, and all three have won the trophy within the last 4 years. It will be exciting to see who walks away with a second trophy this year and exciting also that all 3 finalists belong to the Eastern Conference, 2 from the Metropolitan Division!
It is interesting to note that in the first half of the season, Devan Dubnyk of the Minnesota Wild had also been considered a front runner for the award, but his second half performance faltered and was likely a factor in the voting even though his final stats were comparable to those of Price, who statistically was ranked 3rd after Bobrovsky and Holtby.
The Vezina will be handed out at the NHL Awards on June 21 in Las Vegas.
